I’m deeply honored that my ‚Hatching Human Embryo‘ has been featured on the cover of bref magazine – along with two more images it illustrates the article written by Stefanie Müller-Frank that focuses on a sensitive ethnical question: how much reproductive assistance should be permitted, and what are the pro’s and con’s of legalizing egg cell donation in Switzerland?

The three images are previously unpublished and part of a series that I patiently captured over several years. The aim was to follow in the footsteps of legendary Swedish photographer Lennart Nilsson, using the newest technology to capture the very moment when a new human life begins… !
My heartfelt thanks go to the outstanding team at Reproductive Medicine USB, the Pathology USB, the Bio-EM Lab at the Biozentrum, University Basel, and to Barbara Schmutz of bref-magazine for her kind thoughts and exemplary collaboration in every aspect.
