Over the years Micronaut has created many cover images for scientific journals and research groups. The list includes the greatest names in science. Here are some examples:
“These images are really outstanding. They raise all sorts of research questions I had never even considered before.”
Dr. Rob Dunn
Professor at NC State University
Advanced Biology (2021): Electrophysiological Phenotype Characterization of Human iPSC-Derived Neuronal Cell Lines by Means of High-Density Microelectrode Arrays.
Ronchi et al. Advanced Biology, Vol. 5, March 2021.
Making of
Micronaut’s cover images are carefully created in collaboration with the scientists. Each one is based on an original scanning-electron-micrography (it’s real – no rendering, no manipulation). The goal is to create an eye-catcher that highlights the results of the research study in a unique and rememberable way, to connect with a broad audience.
In the case of the CELL cover 2019, a circular tumor cell (CTC) cluster was isolated from the blood of a patient and sits on the surface of the microfluidic device which has been developed by the team to identify and collect CTC clusters.
Black-and-white SEM scan, intermediate steps of the coloration, and final image. In collaboration with Dr. Nicola Aceto et al, Cancer Research, ETH Zurich.
