Pin Up Boy of the Microscopic Scientific World

Martin Oeggerli is the man behind the establishment of Micronaut. In a short few years he has become the pin up boy of the microscopic scientific world. His images have been published by illustrious publications such as the BBC, Nature, Cell, VOGUE and National Geographic.

The Swiss photographer sees the world as a scientist and an artist: both perspectives are reflected in his pictures as he studies the shapes and sublime beauty of the earth's smallest living organisms. His images are based on scanning-electron-microscopy (SEM). Utilizing electrons instead of photons, SEM technology can produce images with magnifications up to 500'000-times thereby expanding the limits of traditional photography...

2011 has been a year of achievement with a 'International Photographer of the Year' award, 'Photography Master's Cup', and 'The German Prize for Scientific Photography' as well as two IPA special category awards. Micronaut was also invited by the prominent Chinese Artist and Art Director Ai Weiwei to represent the field of Science & Art at the Gwangju Design Biennale, South Korea.
