Bacteria are difficult candidates for scanning-electron-microscopy. On the one hand, they are really small (sometimes below one micrometer) and on the other hand, they contain 99% water and are thus difficult to prepare.

Here you can see several Staphylococci (Streptococcus sp.) that have infected a wound. If untreated, they can spread and eventually cause serious intricacies or lead to death.
